W.H. LEINKAUF ELEMENTARY MEDIA CENTER “EXCELLENCE IN THE MAKING” Meet the Library Staff Mrs. Lauderdale/Library Media Specialist Mrs. Butler/Library Media Assistant Hours of Operation Faculty and staff may check out books before and after school using the checkout log located on the circulation counter. Students may check out books Monday through Friday from 8:30 – 2:30. We have 10 Athena search stations that make it possible to find books and do research. We have tons of Accelerated Reader books in our library that are color coded to help the students find what they need on their level. Book Check-Out Limits Kindergarten and 1st grade students may check out one book at a time. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students may check out two books at a time. Fines are not charged for overdue books: however, students with overdue books will not be allowed to check out additional books. Students must pay to replace lost or damaged books. Parents may also apply for a Leinkauf Library card by filling out an application in the media center. Parents may check out 5 books at a time. Accelerated Reader Program (AR) We have the Renaissance Place program which is an online version where our students have access to over 100,000 quizzes. Eighty to ninety percent of our library books are AR. We use AR in every classroom at Leinkauf – even Kindergarten. 4th and 5th grade students work with Kindergarten students to read AR tests to them so they can make their AR goals too! At the end of the quarter, every student that has made their AR goal (100% with 85% accuracy) attends a party to celebrate their accomplishments! We also have a drawing for 2 students – one in K-2 and another in 3-5. These students fill out red tickets throughout the quarter and then two are picked for prizes – the students may only fill out a red ticket for tests that they passed with 80% or above. Each classroom has a display which shows each student’s progress in making their AR goals (25, 50, 75, and 100%). Certificates and ribbons for students meeting their goals will be given at each Awards Assembly. We are always looking for volunteers in the library! Please call at 221-1500 if you would like to volunteer in the library media center. If you would like access to the Accelerated Reader site to check your child's progress, please click below and fill out the application. https://hosted84.renlearn.com/79497/Public/RPM/Login/RequestAccess.aspx
