Bio

My name is Andrea Coleman, I am a Fifth Grade language Arts and Writing teacher here at Leinkauf Elementary School.  I received a double Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from University of Mobile and a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from University of South Alabama.  I have also taught Kindergarten and third grade.  I enjoy teaching and feel that I am responsible for building the foundation for successful learning in each student's life.   I am married and have 3 daughters and 1 son.  I enjoy spending quality time with my kids, traveling,  and reading.  My favorite authors are Terry McMillan and Kimberla Lawson Roby.

It is my desire as a educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas.   I believe in providing an education that is conducive to establishing such an environment. Teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning for the teacher as well.

My goal as an educator is to instill a love of learning in my students, as I share my own passion for learning with them. Because children have  different interests and learning styles and because they progress at different  rates, an effective educational program must be in place to meet the needs of each child. Because of this,  I am continuously receiving professional development to learn new approaches and strategies to keep my students engaged.

From my continuous learning process as a teacher, I have learned that technology, when integrated into the curriculum, revolutionizes the learning process.   Technology integration positively affects student achievement and academic performance . It impacts achievement in content area learning, promotes higher-order thinking and problem solving skills, and prepares students for the workforce. Although, I teach Fifth Grade, I believe a foundation should be set for long term goals; therefore, I teach with the end in mind.
